My three choices for album covers were chosen by me because
the music they contain are the most meaningful to me and are the kinds of music
I listen to most often. I think the
designs of the covers are most memorable.
My second choice is an album by George Gershwin called At the
Piano. I play the piano and the songs on
the album are some of my favorites to play.
Not only was Gershwin a great piano player, but he was a brilliant
songwriter. Another simple cover, but it
says it all. A photo of Gershwin himself
with a translucent grand piano in front of him.
The black of the piano against the light on Gershwin’s face is a
wonderful contrast. I liked the way the
designer made his name in yellow which makes his name the most important
element on the cover.
My third choice is an album featuring music written by Claude Debussy performed by the Debussy Consort. It features the song Clair de Lune. It also includes Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun which is a song I especially like to listen to when I am painting. The album cover reminds me of the paintings of Van Gogh. Blue and yellow are across from each other on the color wheel which provides a really good contrast. The white lettering against the dark blue also provides a good contrast. The cover has a dream like quality which mimics the music contained in the album.
If anyone is interested…. here is a link to a video featuring Rudolph Nureyev dancing to Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. Nureyev has such control of his body while preforming this dance.
