M4 Design Competition (Part 1)

Image
CarpetVista Design Competition The guidelines for this competition are as follows: 1.  The carpet design should have a modern feeling 2.  Can do a design for a round, square or rectangular carpet (I have decided to do a design that will fit any all of these sizes. 3.  The design should suit a carpet that measures up to 6'7" x 9"8" 4.  The theme is sustainable, therefore a design that will be conducive to using wool.  (Being a lifetime purchaser of wool rugs and my time going to carpet factories while living in Taiwan, I feel my designs can be executed using wool with no problems).      Other parameters are: 1.  The design should be creative and commercially viable 2.  The design must be original 3.  The carpet will be made by hand, so shades can be a challenge 4.  Avoid complex forms and fine details      One big problem I have is that entries must be submitted October 28, 2019.  I am ...

I chose to do an inspirational CD.   I used my own photographs that I took myself on every page.   I used Adobe Photoshop on some of them.   I chose photographs that had a lot of light in them in keeping with the theme and title, Out of the Dark…Into the Light . The CD was created in Adobe InDesign.   I used a font called Segoe Script as I thought it was soothing and easy to read.  The following are the places that I took the photographs I used for this assignment.   Front Cover – Camp Huntington, Raquette Lake, NY in the Adirondacks.   I recently went to a residency class there through Empire State College. Page Two – Inside the Tower of London.   London, England. Page Three – Lake Lucerne in Lucerne, Switzerland.   Page Four – White Flowers taken at New York State Fair Horticultural Show, Syracuse, NY.   Page Five – Up in the Swiss Alps on the way to Stanserhorn Mountain Pea...

I decided to do an album filled with inspirational music.  I will be using all of my own photos so I will be working in photoshop first.  I think I have my grid pretty well set, but nothing is set in stone. I have all my photos picked out.   I will be adding some quotes and some poetry.  I am not sure what text I'm going to use and am still looking.  I want something soothing and energetic at the same time. Don't know if that's possible, but I'll know it when I see it.  My only concern is that it might be a little boring.  I might have to add others things to my design if the photos themselves don't end up having good design elements.  I'll see when I get there.

My three choices for album covers were chosen by me because the music they contain are the most meaningful to me and are the kinds of music I listen to most often.   I think the designs of the covers are most memorable.         My first choice is an album by Earth Wind and Fire.   It features the song That’s the Way of the World.   It debuted in 1975.   The song was used in a movie depicting the music business featuring the members of Earth Wind and Fire.    The images on the cover are of some of the band members.   On the left hand side it shows only part of the body of one of the members of the band which automatically makes you turn it around (as you wonder where the rest of the body of the person is) and you find the rest of the members of the band.   More area to promote the album.   Designer is forcing the viewer to view not only the front but the back.   Brilliant.   It...

Logo's and Business Cards M2 Part 2

Image
Here are my three logo designs and my business card.   I thought that because most likely the Inn is in the woods, I would give my design  a rustic feel, but at the same time be somewhat classy.   The idea of the deer is that the antlers serve to the public whatever is above them.   I hand sketched my designs and turned them into vector’s which took a very long time.   A lot of what I did was trial and error and hopefully I will be able to produce something more quickly with practice.   I learned so much with this assignment.        As far as the colors I used, I naturally made the deer brown and per our assignment I wanted to show a highlight of the Inn during the fall season, so I added the leaves and colored them with fall colors using the gradient tool.   I added the river at the bottom of the main logo because the Inn is on the Hudson River and I also referenced that on the business card w...
